The course · 24 weeks · designed

Judgment, Logic and Creative Direction

Twelve two-week modules across two semesters, for four age bands. Every module follows the same loop, so a five-year-old and an adult practice the same habits at their own scale.

Designed, not yet taught. Short pilots with a later return come before any full course.

One loop, every module

Each session moves through six steps. The loop ends by returning on a later day, because understanding that lasts is shown later, without help.

  1. Make

Start with your own first attempt, before any helper.

  2. Explain

Say why it works, in your own words.

  3. Direct

Give a helper a clear brief: purpose, limits, checks.

  4. Check

Test the helper’s claims another way.

  5. Revise

Change your work because the evidence changed.

  6. Return

Come back another day and show it again, unassisted.

True • False • Check

Before judging a sentence, name what kind of sentence it is. Some can be checked today, some only later, and some are not true or false at all. Check is a responsible answer, not a low grade.

Sentence 1 of 6

“The room costs $60.”

What kind of sentence is this?

Four age bands

The same twelve modules, sized to each age. Children under thirteen work on paper, with real objects and prepared examples, beside an adult. No age band needs an account.

  • Ages 5–6

Two sessions a week, 15–20 minutes

Paper, objects and a pretend helper an adult reads aloud.

  • Ages 10–11

Two sessions a week, 35–45 minutes

Prepared helper answers to check, and small plans to make.

  • Teens

Two sessions a week, 50–60 minutes

Real projects with briefs, audits and a later return.

  • Adults

One 90-minute workshop a week, plus practice

Bring your own work: direct a helper, audit it, decide.

Twelve modules, two semesters

Each module runs for two weeks. The first semester builds the habits; the second puts them to work on something that matters to the learner.

Semester one · weeks 1–12

  1. 01Weeks 1–2

    Notice, name, ask

Say what you see before deciding what it means.

  2. 02Weeks 3–4

    Sequences and instructions

Write steps another person can follow, then test them.

  3. 03Weeks 5–6

    Rules and counterexamples

Look for the one case that breaks a rule.

  4. 04Weeks 7–8

    Claim, evidence, check

Match each claim to what would show it.

  5. 05Weeks 9–10

    Estimate, test, repair

Guess sensibly, test it, and fix the plan.

  6. 06Weeks 11–12

    Explain and remember

Explain in your own words, then again on a later day.

Semester two · weeks 13–24

  1. 07Weeks 13–14

    Vision and audience

Decide who it is for and what it should do.

  2. 08Weeks 15–16

    Roles and collaboration

Agree who does what, including any helper.

  3. 09Weeks 17–18

    Compare kinds of help

Try two ways of being helped and compare what stayed with you.

  4. 10Weeks 19–20

    Teach and challenge, safely

Teach someone, and welcome their questions.

  5. 11Weeks 21–22

    A useful creative commission

Direct a piece of work with a clear brief and checks.

  6. 12Weeks 23–24

    Return, transfer, next vision

Use it somewhere new and set the next goal.

Two worksheets to print

Use them with any project, with or without a helper. They work on paper first.

Vision Brief

Before you ask anyone, person or machine, for help.

  1. ContextWhere does this work live, and what is already true?
  2. Audience and purposeWho is it for, and what should it do for them?
  3. My own contributionWhat do I make or decide myself?
  4. Mood and referencesWhat should it feel like? What examples guide it?
  5. ConstraintsTime, money, materials, rules.
  6. Rights and accessWhose work, images or data may I use? Who must be able to use it?
  7. Three observable checksHow will anyone see that it worked?
  8. Scope and budgetWhat is in, what is out, and the most it may cost.
  9. Outputs and permissionsWhat gets made, and who may send, share or publish it?
  10. Feedback and revisionWho reviews it, when, and how will I change it?

AI Audit

For any answer a helper gives you.

  1. ClaimWrite the exact sentence you are checking.
  2. EvidenceWhat does the helper offer as support?
  3. Independent checkCheck it another way: count, measure, trace the source, ask someone.
  4. EstimateBefore checking, what answer would be reasonable?
  5. CounterexampleIs there a case where it would be wrong?
  6. UncertaintyWhat is still not known?
  7. ReviseWhat do I change, and why? “I changed my mind because the evidence changed.”

Evidence states, never scores

Progress is described by what has been shown and how. A module not attempted is not a zero; it is simply not attempted yet.

  1. Not yet shown

No evidence either way. Nothing is assumed.

  2. Shown with support

Done with a hint, a model or a helper. The support is named.

  3. Shown independently

Done without help, on the day.

  4. Shown in a changed context

Done later, somewhere new, without help.

Six legitimate next moves

When a helper goes wrong, there is more than one good way forward. Learners practice choosing one and saying why.

  • Continue

    When it may fit

Useful context remains coherent and the result survives checks.

  • Clarify

    When it may fit

A specific ambiguity, missing input or wrong constraint explains the difficulty.

  • Clean restart

    When it may fit

Old assumptions or mixed goals cloud the task. Carry a checked handoff, not the whole argument.

  • Switch workflow

    When it may fit

Another permitted model, tool or method fits a mismatch you can name.

  • Independent check

    When it may fit

Trace a source, calculate, run an isolated test, inspect the result, or ask someone who knows.

  • Stop delegation

    When it may fit

Permission, evidence, safety or knowledge is missing. Learn it, or ask a qualified person.
